The sacrament of Baptism is the gateway to all other sacraments, and thus is the first step on the journey towards Christian maturity. There is great joy when a family presents their child to be welcomed as the newest member of our family of faith!
The preparation and formation for Baptism families here at St. Patrick follows the model of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. As well as being inline with the requirements of the Diocese. Families are to attend a Baptism preparation class; that explains the Rite of the Reception of Children. The Reception takes place that week at one of the weekend liturgies. The class also explains the Celebration of the Sacrament. After the family attends that class and completes all the requirement. Then they may schedule their child's Baptism at any of the weekend liturgies.
Here at St. Patrick we have a Padrino ministry, who assist the Priest, Deacon and Baptism family during the Reception of Children and during Baptisms that take place during Mass. Their role is to assist in anyway that they can, to help make this first Sacrament of the Church to be a smooth and beautiful celebration of faith!
It is the hope of Father Larry and the Baptism Formation team that through the Baptism Preparation class families will more fully experience the richness of the baptismal rite, and thus support them in "...their role as nurturers of the life that God has entrusted to them." (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1251)
