Loving Father, creator of the universe, you call your people to worship, to be with you and one another at Mass. I thank you for having called me to assist others in their prayer to you. May I be worthy of the trust placed in me and through my example and service bring others closer to you. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen. |

The eldest son of a shoemaker, John was born at Diest, Brabant (Belgium). As a boy, he wanted to be a priest, and when thirteen became a servant in the household of one of the Cathedral canons at Malines, John Froymont. In 1615, he entered the newly founded Jesuit College at Malines, and the following year became a Jesuit novice. He was sent to Rome in 1618 to continue his studies, and was known for his diligence and piety, impressing all with his holiness and stress on perfection in little things. He died there on August 13. Many miracles were attributed to him after his death, and he was canonized in 1888. He is the patron of altar servers. His feast day is November 26. |

August 15 is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We will celebrate this feast on that Saturday & Sunday, reading from the Gospel of Luke: When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb..." And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant."
On August 26 the Church and the world will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Although this saintly nun and founder of the Missionaries of Charity was diminutive in size, she was a giant in charitable service, reaching out to the poorest of the poor in Calcutta, India and elsewhere. One of her significant life lessions to us was that although not all of us are called to great works, we all have a vocation to love, and she has stated, we can "do small things with great love" and "it all begins with prayer." (written by Mary Elio)
(Join us after the 5pm Mass on Sunday, August 15, for an ICE CREAM SOCIAL in the Bonzel Hall.) |

Courage in Giving...Living in Faith
St. Patrick's kicked off the Capital Campaign in May, 2009. We listened to your requests and researched our needs. We assessed our current financial status and we're making plans for the next 5 years. Our offertory wasn’t keeping up with our demands and we still had a debt of $1.3 million. We believe that by working together over the next 3 years, we can plan for the next 5 years and beyond. Just think of what we could do if we used that money for ministry and outreach.
We believe we are a community grounded in gratitude and our needs and our commitments will be revealed in prayer. Our campaign theme is: “Courage in Giving…Living in Faith.” Please keep your parish in prayer. Thank you for being such an important part of the St. Patrick family.

Our message for 2010 is "The Work of Faith" taken from James 2:15--17: "If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well," but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead."
The Returning God's Gifts appeal provides funds necessary to support over 30 charitable and educational programs throughout the diocese, in addition to providing for the formation of our next generation of priests. You can make your commitment online at www.returninggodsgifts.org.
Please open your hearts and your checkbooks to help those in need!

Pope Benedict XVI addressing altar servers |
|
"When you take part in the Liturgy by carrying out your altar service, you offer a witness to all. Your absorption, the devotion that wells up from your heart and is expressed in gestures, in song, in the responses: if you do it correctly and not absent-mindedly, then in a certain way your witness is one that moves people."
